Donneurs de sens – Season 1, episode 4

Plasma donation: Donating what shines within us

Everything about plasma, from its pale yellow colour to how it is collected and used, is fascinating. Plasma also saves countless lives each year.

In this fourth episode of Héma-Québec’s Donneurs de sens podcast, Marie-Pierre Fafard and Félix-Antoine Hamel join host Chu Anh Pham to talk about plasma, the liquid component of blood.

Plasma is high in proteins like immunoglobulin, which are used to produce specialized medicines. Hospitals throughout Québec use these medicines to treat patients with certain autoimmune diseases, neurological conditions and more. A year’s worth of immunoglobulin treatments for a single person may require up to 160 plasma donations.
