Donneurs de sens – Season 1, episode 5
Human tissue donation: So life can go on
Like organs, human tissue can be collected at the time of a patient’s death and used to improve the quality of life of dozens of people in need. For Sophie, the decision to donate her daughter Catherine’s tissue gave meaning to an otherwise senseless event.
The human tissue from a single donor can help up to 20 people. This final act of generosity means someone else can get their vision back or start playing their favourite sport again, and a severe burn victim can get the skin grafts they need.
In this fifth episode of Héma-Québec’s Donneurs de sens podcast, Ginette Lamothe and Sophie Thivierge join host Chu Anh Pham to talk about human tissue donation, where life and death stand side by side with the utmost reverence.
