Donneurs de sens – Season 1, episode 6
Héma-Québec’s reference laboratory: A life behind each request
Héma-Québec’s reference laboratory plays an important role in finding matching donors and handling the thousands of test requests Québec hospitals send in every year.
While each hospital in Québec has a blood bank, not all of them have cutting-edge equipment or staff who are qualified to perform high-precision testing to identify rare blood types or help patients who need to receive multiple blood products on a regular basis.
In this sixth episode of Héma-Québec’s Donneurs de sens podcast, host Chu Anh Pham speaks with Dr. Nancy Robitaille and patient Ismaël Kando about sickle-cell anemia, a blood disease that particularly affects Black communities.
