Donneurs de sens – Season 2: 101 courses, episode 12
Stem cell donation
Donating stem cells means offering a chance of survival to a very sick person. It's a very precious gift, but also a very precise one, since the donor selected must have a genetic background almost identical to that of the person who will receive the transplant.
For what types of disease can a person need a stem cell transplant? How does one become a stem cell donor? How does the donation process work? Is it painful? All the questions most frequently asked by the public will be addressed in this episode, including those related to the operation of Héma-Québec's stem cell donor registry and the buccal swab kit that must be completed to be registered.
In this twelfth episode of the series, hosts Camille Lemay and Henrio Grubissa discuss stem cell donation with Corinne Grefford, donor recruitment advisor at Héma-Québec.
