Héma-Québec releases its 2024–2025 Annual Report
Montréal – Héma-Québec’s latest annual report was submitted to the National Assembly of Québec yesterday and is now available on its website. The report covers the activities and accomplishments of the past fiscal year, which ran from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
Once again this year, Héma-Québec saw continued success in its mission to efficiently meet the needs of the Québec population for quality blood and other biological products of human origin. Here are a few of our accomplishments:
- 146,735 people donated blood or platelets.
- 309,113 blood products were distributed.
- 30,312 people donated plasma.
- 449,742 plasma-derived medicines and products were distributed.
- 7,694 human tissue products were distributed.
- The Stem Cell Donor Registry now includes 56,986 registered individuals.
- A total of 2,598 women registered with the Public Cord Blood Bank.
Strategic projects
Throughout the year, the organization also delivered on major projects, including its ambitious plan to launch new plasma donation centres to support the province’s objective to be fully self-sufficient in immunoglobulins—proteins that are vital to thousands of patients across the province. The Héma-Québec Donation Centre in Drummondville opened in 2025, with another scheduled to follow in Lévis in 2026. The results speak for themselves: in 2024–2025, plasma donations were up 16% from the previous year.
This past fiscal year also saw the entry into force of Héma-Québec’s sole human tissue distributor mandate, entrusted to it by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux. Héma-Québec has managed Canada’s largest human tissue bank since 2001, and in December, it became responsible for supplying all human tissue products used in Québec’s health care network. This broader role resulted in a sharp 42.5% increase in the number of human tissue products distributed by Héma-Québec to Québec hospitals over the previous fiscal year.
The organization also consolidated its brand names (like GLOBULE and PLASMAVIE) under a single name, Héma-Québec, and updated its logo. This project was part of a larger strategy to optimize communications with the public, in order to ultimately recruit new donors in all of Héma-Québec’s activity lines.
