Two major deployment milestones

New integrated management software package

Montréal – Héma-Québec would like to announce the completion two major phases in the project to modernize its integrated management software package, called Synapse. The SAP ECC system Héma-Québec adopted in 1999 was coming to the end of its life cycle and will no longer be supported by its developer as of 2030. Modernizing this system was crucial to Héma-Québec’s ability to ensure the longevity of its operations, continue to meet regulatory standards, such as Health Canada’s, and improve organizational efficiency and data traceability.

After launching a call for proposals in 2022, Héma-Québec selected a specialized integrator to help migrate its SAP to a powerful, integrated cloud solution that can meet the needs of a highly regulated environment.

Two strategic phases

April 2024 saw the launch of the Espace Formation learning management system. Based on SAP SuccessFactors, Espace Formation empowers Héma-Québec with a more modern approach to managing the regulatory training it must offer its employees on a regular basis in order to keep the many accreditations it needs to pursue its mission and to ensure their professional development.

In June 2025, the SAP S/4HANA system went live for all plasma, human tissue, supply, quality and finance units, bringing all of these business processes under one technology umbrella.

Collaboration, planning and risk management

The project was piloted by a committee with representatives from several teams within the organization, with the integrator offering full support. Héma-Québec internal teams and external partners worked closely together, drawing on a shared sense of purpose and a painstaking approach to successfully launch the two new systems.

A proactive approach to risk management, close oversight of implementation operations and careful step-by-step planning successfully ensured that every stage of the project met deployment expectations. A period of hypercare was also built into the project, in order to support users in learning to use the new tools and ensure system stability.

These milestones are part of a continuous effort to streamline internal processes, increase information traceability, better manage operations and improve access to strategic data.
