Over the course of 2025, research teams demonstrated, among other findings, that the purity, recovery and functionality of cord blood stem cells depend on the thawing conditions used for the units — a breakthrough that could facilitate their use in therapeutic products. Another Héma-Québec research project highlighted the impact of hematocrit levels on neutrophil preservation. These findings pave the way for optimizing granulocyte concentrate preparation protocols to improve transfusion effectiveness.
