Sasha, donneuse de sang Sasha, blood donor

Take a minute. Give years.

Someone in Québec needs blood every 80 seconds. Blood and blood products are essential for daily medical care. When you donate, you become part of a lifeline that many Quebecers depend on.

Who can give blood?

Patients are in need of blood every day. You can give blood if you are healthy and meet the eligibility criteria.

How does blood donation work?

Donating blood takes about 10 minutes. You can expect to spend about an hour at the donation site for the entire donation process.

Where can I donate blood?

Over 2,000 mobile blood drives are held each year across Québec. You can also donate blood at some of our donation centres.

Giving blood truly saves lives. If I hadn’t received the blood I did, I might not be here today. Héma-Québec saved my life.

No. Transfusion recipients are not given whole blood, just the blood components that they need (red blood cells, platelets or plasma). As a result, blood has to be separated into its different components prior to transfusion.
