IgA assay and anti-IgA detection service
IgA testing can determine whether a person has IgA deficiency when their detection threshold is below 0.05 mg/dL (0.5 mg/L). For these individuals, anti-IgA antibodies are tested to ensure that if they have a history of severe allergic transfusion reactions to blood products due to anti-IgA antibodies, they can be transfused with IgA-deficient blood products.
The laboratory does the following analyses:
- identification of IgA deficiency;
- detection of anti-IgA in people with an IgA deficiency.
