Immunology analyses and platelet genotyping
Héma-Québec’s platelet immunology laboratory performs HPA and HLA antigen genotyping and anti-HPA and anti-HLA antibody testing to help health care professionals care manage thrombocytopenic people. More specifically, our laboratories perform investigations by testing for and identifying anti-HPA antibodies (HPA-1 to 5 and HPA-15) and anti-HLA antibodies (class I), as well as HPA genotyping (HPA-1 to 11 and HPA-15) and HLA genotyping (locus A and B).
Platelet immunology tests are performed in the following cases:
- anti-HPA alloimmunization in a situation of fetal-maternal platelet incompatibility (cases of neonatal thrombocytopenia and high-risk pregnancy);
- refractory state to platelet transfusions (case of transfusion support);
- autoimmunity in of thrombocytopenia situation (unexplained thrombocytopenia);
- maintenance of registries of HPA and HLA genotyped platelet donors.
