The Public Cord Blood Bank team is pleased to share its World Cord Blood Day webinar with you. The webinar and Éducation Héma-Québec evaluation are offered in French only.
On November 17, to mark World Cord Blood Day, Héma-Québec hosted the free webinar Greffe, innovation et collaboration au coeur des soins (French only).
The event highlighted the essential role of cord blood as a source of stem cells for transplantation and cell therapy. Diane Fournier presented the Public Cord Blood Bank and its activities, while Dr. Sylvie Lachance explained why this source is preferred for hematopoietic transplants. Finally, Elisa Tomellini shared the latest advances in the UM171 protocol, which expands access to transplants for patients without a compatible donor.
This webinar is eligible for 1 continuing education credit (1 hour) upon full viewing and successful completion of the evaluation on the Héma-Québec Education platform. Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your knowledge!

The Cord Blood Bank team presents a webinar organized as part of World Cord Blood Day.
Diane Fournier, from Héma-Québec’s Cord Blood Bank, committed to celebrating World Cord Blood Day for the second year in a row. For the occasion, a free international webinar was presented in French on November 14, 2019.
That event was made possible through a partnership with the Banque de Sang de Cordon de Liège, the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and the Société francophone de greffe de moelle et de thérapie cellulaire.
In 2019, three distinguished guests shared the podium for this webinar: Dr. Éliane Gluckman of the St-Louis hospital in Paris, Dr. Gilles Delage of Héma-Québec, and Mathias Malzieu, singer with the group Dionysos, writer, and director.
They discussed the following topics:
- Immunogenetic diversity in the cord blood registries and banks by Dr. Éliane Gluckman, who performed the very first cord blood transplant.
- Cord blood transplants and emerging pathogens: is this an area of concern? by Dr. Gilles Delage of Héma-Québec.
- Account of Mathias Malzieu's personal experience as a recipient of a cord blood transplant.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU): 1 hour
This one-hour webinar, presented as part of World Cord Blood Day, aims to increase understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the cord blood field.
The webinar includes a presentation by two influential figures in the field of stem cells, Dr. Éliane Gluckman, who performed the very first stem cell transplant with cord blood, and Mai Duong, a cord blood recipient. Both of them talked about their journey and their vision for the field of stem cell transplanting.
Presented by Diane Fournier of Héma-Québec’s Public Cord Blood Bank, this webinar benefited from the cooperation of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular therapy (FACT) and of Dr. Étienne Baudoux, of the cord blood bank in Liège, Belgium.
