Who can donate human tissue?
Human tissue donation is the removal of certain anatomical structures from the human body of a deceased person for the purpose of providing various types of human tissue for transplantation. It can be performed up to the age of 85, and nearly 50% of deceased individuals are eligible for tissue donation. Depending on their age, the following human tissues may be collected:
Heart valves
Collected from birth to age 60
Cutaneous tissues and musculoskeletal tissues
Collected from ages 15 to 75
Eye tissues
Collected from ages 2 to 85
